Consultancy
Contracted to the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) Will, with Allium, provided a range of consultancy services across different contracts.
These primarily focused on procurement, commercial and contractual insight and support helping LOCOG efficiently and effectively award contracts worth tens of millions of pounds for various goods and services across all sports, venues and locations.
Contracting effectively for anything ‘live’ brings unique challenges and requires an approach that’s both delicate and robust.
Test Events
Will worked with Upsolut Sports UK to set up the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London in 2009 and continued to support the event in 2010 and 2011. The highlight of the international triathlon calendar and a pillar event in London’s calendar.
This ambitious and challenging event in London’s Hyde Park grew and grew, and in 2011 it became a test event for the 2012 Triathlon. The result of two years work, the test event in 2011 was an immense spectacle and its success instilled confidence in a great many stakeholders ahead of 2012.
A Summer Like No Other
Will and Allium on behalf of the Mayor of London and LOCOG created, produced and delivered Showtime and other activity for the Mayor’s “A Summer Like No Other”. This was the largest free outdoor festival ever seen in the UK.
Some 400 artists and over 5,000 performances across all 33 Boroughs of London over 8 weeks was as impressive a spectacle as it was a feat to pull off.
Olympic Park Entertainment
The Olympic Park hosted hundreds of thousands of people during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Keeping the park animated and alive was no mean feat.
Allium worked with LOCOG’s Spectator Experience team to curate and produce weeks and weeks of entertainment across the entire park for the duration of the Games.
London 2012 Festival
As part of Allium’s contracts with the Mayor of London and LOCOG, they helped produce and deliver a number of cultural events across the London 2012 Festival including activity in the various Live Sites and other key locations around London.
Media Commentary
Before, during and after the Games, Will spent a considerable amount of time on national and international TV and radio providing opinion and insight into a number of issues surrounding the events.
Subjects discussed included the security of the Games and events, how Korean and North Korean flags could possibly have been confused and the impact of the Games.
Spectating
It wasn’t all work. Will was lucky enough to attend a few events including the Opening Ceremony.
